March 2025 Beaufort, SC Fishing Report

March Beaufort Redfish Fly Fishing

Welcome to your latest March 2025 Beaufort, SC Fishing Report, where I provide up-to-date insights on inshore and offshore fishing conditions, top catches, and expert tips for the month of March.

As we transition into spring, the weather will continue to become nice, creating excellent fishing conditions. The water is warming up, and we are seeing some changes in fish behavior. The big winter schools of Redfish are beginning to spread out, becoming more aggressive as they feed on spring grass shrimp at low tide. During high tide, they scatter into the grass and mud pools, searching for crabs.

Unlike the winter months, we no longer have to rely on tiny and quiet profile lures or flies. Both bait and artificial lures are proving to be productive. Fly fishing remains strong, though the approach shifts as fish behavior adapts to the changing conditions.

Weather & Conditions:

  • Average Air Temp: 65°F
  • Average Water Temp: 65°F
  • Water Clarity: Clear to Slightly Stained
  • Tide Swing: ~6 feet
  • Average Wind: 5-10 mph

Fly Fishing

Fly fishing doesn’t necessarily get better or worse in March—it simply requires a different approach. Larger flies can now be used, and fish are more willing to chase active presentations. On a good weather day, an experienced angler can easily land double-digit Redfish using either fly or spinning tackle while sight fishing.

Light Tackle

Soft plastics and live bait continue to be highly effective, with Redfish responding well to both. Spring grass shrimp at low tide and crabs at high tide provide excellent natural forage, making for some exciting fishing action.

Unlike later in the season, species such as Tarpon, Bull Reds, Jacks, Cobia, Triple Tail, and Sharks have not yet arrived, but the warming waters signal that the prime fishing season is just around the corner.
